Jade wrote such a lovely memory of her grandmother! And it made me laugh. My mom also liked poker, and yes, she once wrote a check too, lol. I think Gloria was appropriately named. An elegant lady who looked at the world through beautiful Italian eyes. I see her legacy in her two daughters, Christina and Sandra, although I haven't met her sons. But I know that she and her husband raised a wonderful, loving family. I think it's quite an accomplishment to live for 100 years on this earth. I've noticed that people who do all have positivity in common. They count their smiles, not their tears. Thank you for sharing the secret to living a happy life, Gloria. I have no doubt that you are still going strong in Heaven. I raise an energy drink to you! ❤️
My favorite memory of Grandma Goog (Gloria) was at my Uncle Marks house. I was maybe 6 years old and there were 20+ people around a table playing a VERY intense game. I’m not sure what game they were playing, but all the people were immediate family and close friends that might as well have been family. The room was darkly lit, except for the light that hung above the table. Everyone had their favorite drink in hand, Gin & Gingerale, Makers on the rocks, and cheap cheap red wine. Chips and dips and pepperoni, cheese and cracker platters were there for snacking of course. Now, if you know my family, we are all very close and very loving…except when playing cards. Names are called, feelings are hurt, voices are Italian level loud, and there is lots and lots of Sh*t talking. Family fun gambling is the meatball to our rigatoni. This particular night stood out not because of all that, but because of a particular ask of me from my Grandma. As I approached the table, I saw the pile of money sitting in the middle. It was high and fat extending to peoples drinks and almost falling off the table. As my eyes took in all the money, I remember thinking…I could buy a lot of Barbie’s with that kind of money. My Grandma had just ran out of cash, but that wasn’t going to end her night. To no one’s surprise, she pulled out her check book (yes, check book), wrote her bet down, and threw it into the pile. That’s when she turned her head and said to me, “come here sweetie- my lucky Jade” and extended her arms out to pick me up. She pulled me up in her lap and wanted me to play her hand. I was so scared and so nervous with everyone watching and all the money at steak. She said “ Dont worry darling, I believe in you.” I’m not sure if it was a card I pulled or dice I rolled, but it was a winner! There was more shouting and even more cheering. She was so happy. I was so happy. We laughed so hard and hugged so tight. This will remain one of my favorite memories. I’ll miss you Grandma ❤️
